NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - David F. Waychus, 59, of Nora Springs died Thursday (March 4, 2010) at the Iowa Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

Graveside services will be held for Dave at 2 p.m. Monday, March 8, at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122 W., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling officiating, where full military honors will be conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Following the graveside services, the family will be gathering at the Elephant Keg, 14 S. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, and wishes to invite all of Dave's friends to join them.

Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, March 8, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

David F. Waychus, 59, of Nora Springs died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Iowa Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

Graveside services will be held for Dave at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2010 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122 West, Mason City, with Reverend Kenneth B. Gehling officiating, where Full Military Honors will be conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Following the graveside services the family will be gathering at the Elephant Keg, 14 S. Hawkeye Avenue, Nora Springs, and wishes to invite all of Dave’s friends to join them.

Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday, March 8, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street Northeast, Mason City.

Memorial contributions may be made to the David F. Waychus Memorial Fund to be donated to the Nora Springs Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance.

David F. Waychus was born on April 4, 1950 in Mason City, Iowa to Frank and Vera Waychus, he was one of three children. Dave attended Mason City High School and graduated amongst the class of 1968. On June 26, 1968 Dave enlisted into the Navy where he faithfully and honorably served his country during the Vietnam Conflict until his Honorable Discharge on August 29, 1972.

Dave was employed by the Mason City Post Office and worked as a letter carrier for 31 years before his retirement.

He had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting, Dave especially enjoyed traveling to Canada for fishing trips with his buddies. But Dave’s greatest love and enjoyment was spending time with his “Dearest Darling Daughter”, Lindsay.

Dave was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. where he held the position of Senior Vice Commander of Post 733 and was a member of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association Honor Guard. He was also a lifetime member of D.A.V., the American Legion H.D.S. Post 49 of Nora Springs and was a member of the Vintage Auto Club.

The family would like to thank the men and women of the VA Health Care System for the exceptional care and comfort they provided to Dave over the many years.

Those grateful in sharing in Dave’s life are his daughter, Lindsay Hanson and her husband Ross of Waterloo; his sister, Ruth Powers of Jackson, Missouri; his brother, Doug Waychus and his wife Rosetta, of Rockford; his nieces, Meghan (Thad) Landers of Shell Rock and Danielle (Chris) Patterson of Frost, Texas; one nephew, Markus (Mayra) Hamlett, of Germany; and his two great nephews, Michael Hamlett and Kayden Landers.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents.
