Jerry D. Engelhardt Sr.

Jerry D. Engelhardt Sr., 62, of 2147 Ridgeway Ave. Charles City, died Wednesday morning, August 15, 2001, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, August 17, 2001 at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City. Officiating will be the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag, senior pastor. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM, Friday at Lime Springs Cemetery, Lime Springs, IA. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

Jerry was born one of nine children to Abner and Vera (Marten) Engelhardt on January 7, 1939 in Howard County near Lime Springs, Iowa. He graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1957. He then entered the Navy and served his country honorably during the Korean conflict. He was a supervisor on the management team at White Farms and did custom farming. Following Whites closing he became a supervisor for SKITEC in Waverly until retiring due to his health on May 7, 2001. Jerry was married to Shirley Womack on December 27, 1957 at Riceville, Iowa.

He later married Diana Jaeger at the Chapel on The Hill on August 11, 1984 at Eldora. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, testing his skills at ice fishing, hunting when he was younger, and working on his acreage. He had a fascination for trains and collected them along with toy tractors and antiques. His love of animals carried through to his dog and cat "Teddy and Peaches" and keeping an ample supply of bird seed. He also enjoyed reading the history of WWII. Jerry was a member of the American Legion.

Those thankful in sharing Jerrys life include his wife, Diana, Charles City, his mother, Vera Engelhardt, Charles City; two daughters, Sheila and her husband James Fain, Waterloo; Julie and her husband Don Hase, Osage; two sons, Jerry Engelhardt Jr. and his wife Karla, Marble Rock; Scott Engelhardt and his wife Susan, Osage; one step-daughter Tamara Wessels, Charles City; two step-sons Tim Temple and his wife Angie, Phoenix, AZ; and Troy Temple and his wife Angie, Jefferson, IA. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren Sabrina, Tyler and Tarah Engelhardt, Kristal Benson, Zach and Logan Hase, Luke and Amber Gast, Michael Foster, Tonya, Bobby, Taylor and Chris Temple, Joshua and Riley Wessels, and one great granddaughter Micheala Benson. His sibling survivors include four sisters, Vickie Davies and her husband Owen, Charles City; Nancy Howland and her husband Steve, Davenport; Joanie Lukes and her husband John, Washburn, IA; Debbie Foster and her husband Don, Clarksville; one brother Daryl Engelhardt and his wife Lois, Garrison, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was proceeded in death by his father, two sisters Peggy Engelhardt and Judy Harrington, one brother Arlie, and two grandaughters Vanessa Temple and one in infancy.
