Madonna C. Venz

CHARLES CITY, IOWA -- Madonna C. Venz, 81, formerly of 700 Wisconsin St. and Rural Route #4, Charles City, died Monday (Dec. 23, 1996) at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 705 Third Ave., Charles City, with the Rev. Curt Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Mrs. Venz, the former Madonna Christina Guthart, was born Sept. 21, 1915, in Charles City, the daughter of Edward and Nettie (Larrabee) Guthart. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1934. Following high school, she received her normal training to become a school teacher. She taught at the Venz Country School.

The couple made their home for many years on a farm north of Charles City. Mr. Venz died Oct. 25, 1985, in Mason City. Mrs. Venz moved into Charles City following his death. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the Friendly Birthday Club and the Welcome Club.

Living family members include a son and his wife, Ron and Marilyn Venz of Charles City; a daughter and her husband, Carolyn and Rich Hansen of Nashua; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Harland and Garland Venz; and an infant sister, Edna Guthart.

Those considering an expression of sympathy may choose to direct memorials to Messiah Lutheran Church or Heart to Home Hospice.
