Evelyn Houdek, 72, of Charles City, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Evelyn Marie Logan Houdek was born June 10, 1937, at Oakwood, the daughter of James and Frances (Roetheler) Logan. She received her education at the Immaculate Conception School in Charles City. On January 5, 1963, she was united in marriage to Virgil Houdek. They lived in Charles City all of their lives. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Evelyn loved to spend time with her family, friends and “treasure” hunting. She will always be remembered as a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother.

Living family members include her children, David (Kathy) Logan of Round Rock, Tex., Kathryn (David) Baruth of West Union, Tracy (Tim) Bige of Brook Park, Minn., Brenda Houdek of Charles City, Virgil Houdek, Jr. of Charles City, Eugene Houdek of Charles City, Lori Fry of Charles City, Jeffrey Houdek and fiancée Nicole Anthony of Nora Springs, Julie Ferch and special friend Christopher Anthony of Charles City, and Michael Houdek of Charles City; a step daughter, Sandra Paul of Charles City; 20 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren including one to soon arrive; a sister, Mary Mehmen of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, a son, Rodney Houdek; two sisters, Florence Kirsch and Nora Meighan; and a brother, Edward Logan.
