Ronald Gene Grinstead

Ronald Gene Grinstead, 62, of Charles City, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at Hines VA Center in Chicago, Ill.

Funeral services will be April 3, 2004, at First Wesleyan Church in Charles City at 10 a.m., with Pastor Ted Clark presiding. Ronald's body was cremated. There will be no visitation.

Ronald was born January 31, 1942, to John Harvey and Corrine Pearl Grinstead in New Hampton.

Ronald graduated from Osage High School in 1960 and attended Muscatine Junior College in 1969. He was in the U.S. Navy from June 1960 to March 1964 during the Viet Nam War. He was an airplane mechanic stationed on the U.S.S. Lexington aircraft carrier. He was awarded a certificate from the American Red Cross for Skills Training for Human Services for Paraprofessionals and Module II: Casework Skills in S.A.F. and S.M.F. & V. He was also awarded a Special Citation for Exceptional volunteer Service from 1990-1991 and a Certificate of Appreciation in Support of "Operation Desert Storm" from 1990-1991.

Ronald married Joyce Hinders on April 7, 1995. He has one daughter, one son and a grandson, all of Virginia.

Ronald was a member of the American Bowling Association from 1992-1999 and was a YMCA member. He enjoyed crafts of all types, gardening and lawn care, and refinishing furniture.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Charles City; one daughter, Shellia Marie Grinstead; one son, Ronald Gene Grinstead, Jr.; one grandson, Devin Rashad Grinstead, all of Virginia; six brothers: Bill of Osage, Donald of Lewiston, Idaho, James of Osage, Larry of Austin, Minn., Richard of Tucson, Ariz. and David of San Gabriel, Calif.; five sisters: Suzi (Leslie) Thurnau of Osage, Alice Grinstead of Edmond, Ok., Lynda (Joe) Retterath of Eagan, Minn., Cynthia (Roger) Brumm of Stacyville, and Ruth (Bill) Johnson of Riceville; many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gerald.

Ronnie Gene Grinstead, 1942-2004

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Ronnie Gene Grinstead, age 62, of Charles City. He died Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the V.A. Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. His body was cremated.

Ronnie Grinstead was born January 31, 1942 at New Hampton, Iowa. He graduated from Osage High School, Osage, Iowa, in 1960 and from Muscatine Junior College in 1969.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Corrine Odden Grinstead and John Harvey Grinstead and a brother Jerry Grinstead.

He is survived by his children Ronnie Gene Grinstead, Shelia Marie Grinstead and a grandson Devon Rashad Grinstead of Virginia; brothers Bill Grinstead of Osage; Donald (Melva) Grinstead of Lewiston, Idaho, James (Janet) Grinstead of Osage, Larry (Barbara) Grinstead of Austin, Minnesota, Richard Grinstead of Tucson, Arizona, and David Grinstead of San Gabriel, California, and sisters Suzie (Les) Thurnau of Osage, Ruth (Bill) Johnson of Riceville, Alice Grinstead of Edmond, Oklahoma, Lynda (Joe) Retterath of Eagan, Minnesota, and Cyndy (Roger) Brumm of Stacyville, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
