Friedrich Daake, 1841-1914

August Daake first saw the light of the world in Lippe Detmold, Germany, on October 9, 1842 [1841], and died on December 26, 1914, in Charles City, Iowa. In 1865 he joined his now grieving widow in the holy state of matrimony. Had he lived until October 1, 1915, they would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. This couple was blessed with seven children, three of which died before their father.

In 1866, brother Daake came with his wife to this country. They lived for a while in Freeport, Illinois, and for a short time in Cassville, Wisconsin. In the former city Mr. Daake found the Master and became a member of the German Methodist Episcopal Church. Since 1869 he has lived in the Charles City area. He was among the first (charter) members of the Flood Creek Church congregation and for many years served as a class leader there. For the past 16 years has been a member of the Charles City congregation.

He loved the church of his choice and was a diligent seeker of ways to serve God; he always had a steady and open hand as he worked for the kingdom of God. He was also a true German Patriot; not long before his death he donated $15 to help alleviate the suffering of oppressed German people. The deceased appreciated all sorts of ordinary kindnesses. About six weeks before his death he was diagnosed with a complicated illness of the stomach, liver and heart. In spite of medical help and loving care, the illness took him anyway.

Through God’s grace and the merit of Christ he took his leave of absence from this life. He leaves behind his wife, 4 adult children (his son Rev. John Daake is a member of the Northwest German Conference), 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and large circle of friends. The interment took place at the Flood Creek Cemetery. (An evangelical message was requested by the family.)
