Adolphs Dies of Heart Ailment

Henry E. Adolphs, 85, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday [23 Sep 1952] at the Cedar Valley hospital, where he had been a patient since Sunday. Death was the result of a heart ailment.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p. m. at the Flood Creek Methodist church. The Rev. Charles Fort, former pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Flood Creek cemetery. Friends may call oat the Hauser funeral home until noon Friday.

Mr. Adolphs farmed in Ulster township for many years until his retirement. Born in Germany March 1, 1867, he was married at Flood Creek in Floyd county Sept. 28, 1893, to Martha Daake.

His wife survives as do two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Dorothy) Willert of Rockford and Mrs. Henry (Anna) Marth of Ulster township. There are nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

One brother, Ernest Adolphs, of Washougal, Wash., and a sister, Mrs. Doris Meyer, of Swaledale, are other survivors. Three sons, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Henry Adolphs
Henry E. Adolphs was born March 1, 1867, in Lippe-Detmoldt, Germany, and returned to his maker on September 23, 1952.
As a young man of 18 years he came to the United States and started work in Ulster township of Floyd county, Iowa. He worked and farmed the rest of his active life there. Shortly after coming to this country he joined the Flood Creek Methodist church and was a member until he joined the church above.
He was married to Martha Daake, September 28, 1893. To this union was born three sons, one daughter. They had in addition one daughter by adoption.
His three sons, two sisters, two brothers, preceded him in death. Among those relatives who survive are his wife, his daughters, Mrs. Walter Willert, and adopted daughter Mrs. Henry Marth. He has nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one brother, Ernest Adolphs of Washougal, Washington, one sister, Mrs. Doris Meier of Swaledale, Iowa and other nieces, and nephews who also survive.
