CHARLES CITY, Iowa - Ruth L. Duncan, 87, of 309 5th Ave. in Charles City, died Monday morning, October 1, 2007, at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2007, at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. The visitation will continue on Thursday at the funeral home, one hour prior to Ruth’s service. Those wishing to extend memorial contributions may direct them to the family in C/O of Ruth’s daughter, Linda Yost, 406 Kelly St., Charles City, IA 50616. Ruth Louise Duncan was born March 5, 1920 in Ulster Township, Floyd County, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick M. and Margaret L. (Noss) Gabel. She attended and graduated high school in Charles City. Ruth furthered her education attending the Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

On June 19, 1948 Ruth was united in marriage to Hubert O. Duncan at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Throughout her life Ruth taught school, worked for the superintendent of schools in Charles and worked with the hospital admissions in Charles City. Ruth would be best remembered for driving her blue Oldsmobile all around town. She was affectionately known as “Grandma D” to all of her grandchildren’s friends. Ruth was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan of both basketball and football. Ruth was very family oriented and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in her life are her daughter, Linda (Stan) Yost of Charles City; her son, Dan Duncan of Mason City; two grandchildren, Benton (Heather) Yost of Urbandale, Iowa, and Breanne (Jeff) Puetz of Racine, WI; three great grandchildren, Madilynn Puetz and twins, Ava and Gavyn Yost. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert O. Duncan on February 2, 1963 and her five brothers.
