MAPES, BEERS, MARTIN, HOLMAN, SMITH, EATON

CHARLES CITY, IOWA -- Daniel Webster Mapes was born February 22, 1855 in Janesville, Wisconsin, and died February 26, 1930 at the age of 75 years and 4 days.

He was the only son of D. W. and Sophia Mapes. Three sisters preceded him in death.

He was united in marriage to Mrs. Helen Beers April 4, 1888. To this union were born three children, Samuel A., Charles L., and Alice. Samuel departed this life in September 1922. Besides the immediate family he leaves to mourn his loss, two step-daughters, Miss Daisy Beers of Mason City and Mrs. Edna Martin of Waterloo; three half sisters, Mrs. Sophia Holman of Waterloo, Mrs. Stella Smith of Jesup, and Mrs. Millie Eaton, deceased; one half brother, Ed Mapes of Floyd, also six grandchildren, Robert, Marjorie and Roger Mapes, Lloyd, Leroy and Harland Martin.

Mr. Mapes came to Iowa when a young man, with the exception of several years residence in Colorado has spent his life in this community, having lived for 37 years on his farm northwest of Floyd. Early in life he was united with the Advent Christian church.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Floyd M. E. Church with the Rev. Artz and Rev. Christensen officiating, with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery.
