Glenn Pyle, 88, of Charles City, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Pastor Dennis Niezwaag of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Glenn Richard Pyle was born October 23, 1920, in Floyd County, the son of Earl and Susie (Poncin) Pyle. He graduated from Charles City High School. Glenn proudly served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II in the European theater.

On October 8, 1941, he married Betty Schilling at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union three children, Galen, Ginger and Sally were born. They later divorced.

Glenn then married Susan Ranney. Glenn worked for Western Buyers as a hog buyer for 40 years and opened his own buying station in 1980. He and Susan wintered for the past 25 years in Rio Grande Valley, Tex. Glenn was an avid card player, fisherman and golfer. He also followed the Charles City girls softball teams for years.

Living family members include his wife, Susan Pyle of Charles City; three children, Galen (Bernice) Pyle of San Antonio, Tex., Ginger Meyer of Charles City; and Sally Short of San Jose, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Jason (Carolyn) Meyer, Brianna Meyer and special friend Chris Freiberg, Ryan Short, Stephan (Amy) Pyle, Janelle (Lindsey) Williams, Michelle (Ryan) Vener and Christine (Paul) Dyer; 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Eldon Pyle.
