Gladys Hazel Ritter

Gladys Hazel Ritter passed away on September 8, 2009, at the age of 91 years.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Wesleyan Church, 913 S. Main St., Charles City. She will be interred at Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Gladys was born in Crystal Township and raised in Crystal Lake. She married Nikolaj Jensen on August 12, 1942. They moved to Charles City in 1945 and had two children, Richard ‘Red’ (Diane) Jensen and Karen Jensen Richards, both of Lynnwood, Washington. She worked as both a waitress and an Amway distributor for many years. She then worked at Salsbury's Laboratories until her retirement in 1981.

After the passing of her first husband in 1960, she met and married Leo Ritter of Charles City in 1962. Leo had seven children and there came to be for Gladys many grandchildren and great-grandchildren to love. Gladys lived in Charles City until 2004, when she moved to the Seattle area to live with her son and daughter-in-law.

While in Charles City, she attended the Wesleyan Church. After moving to the Seattle area, she attended Shoreline Free Methodist Church in Shoreline, Wash.

She is survived by a sister, two children, six grandchildren, five Ritter step-children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Donations in her name can be made to the Wesleyan Church, 913 S. Main St., Charles City, IA, 50616.
