FLOYD, IOWA - Garland E. Waid, 65, 1290 Rampart Ave., rural Floyd, died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Wesleyan Church, 913 S. Main St., Charles City, under the auspices of the Howardville Wesleyan Church, rural Floyd. The Rev. Martin Miller, pastor, Howardville Wesleyan Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Floyd.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. The family will be present from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday to receive friends. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church Saturday.

Garland E. Waid, 65, was born on August 8, 1935, in rural Charles City, and passed away on November 1, 2000 at Rochester, Minnesota. He lived at Floyd, Floyd county, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 4, 2000 at First Wesleyan Church. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Floyd, Iowa.

Garland was the son of Earl "Tom" and Lois Waid. He is the brother of Tim and Dianne, and a half-brother of Robert (Jacque) and Mary Lou.
He graduated from Floyd Consolidated High School, Charles City, Iowa, in the class of 1954.

Garland Waid and Eleanor Mills were married at Grace Methodist Church in Floyd, in August 1956. Miss Mills graduated from Floyd High School and was at that time employed at the Marr Knitting Mill in Osage. Mr. Waid also graduated from Floyd High School and was at that time employed by the Oliver Corporation in Charles City. [RE: Mason City Globe Gazette, Fri., Aug. 31, 1956]

Garland served as secretary for the Cedar Valley Electric Cooperative Board of Directors. A 1989 Cedar Valley Electric booklet included the following informative text concering Mr. Waid, who was at that time serving as Secretary, and living at Floyd. "Mr. Waid's father, Earl Waid, went from neighbor to neighbor urging them to become members of a proposed rural electric cooperative. He felt the quality of life for rural America would be enhanced by electricity. Garland Waid is a graduate of Charles City High School.

He married the former Eleanor Mills and their children are: Julie Boge, Charles City; Brent Waid, Charles City; Glenn Waid, Sioux City, Jill Banks, Charles City, and Jennifer (Andrew), Floyd.

He was engaged in farming and also was employed at the Salisbury Laboratories of Charles City. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, flying and enjoying his grandchildren. He has been a CVEC member for 23 years and is a Farm Bureau member."

He is survived by 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father.
