CLEAR LAKE, IOWA - Edward Eugene Clifford, 43, of 701 14th St. S., died Wednesday (May 14, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery with full military honors by the Clear Lake American Legion. Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. today at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with a 6 p.m. prayer service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Edward Clifford Memorial Fund.

Edward was born on Nov. 29, 1953, in Nora Springs, the son of Eugene and Velma (Nihoff) Clifford. He received his education in Nora Springs and Mason City. He served his country in the United States Army from 1974 to 1977, while he was stationed in Alaska.

Following his honorable discharge, he worked customizing vans for Winnebago and then was employed at Tonka Coolers. He most recently was employed in maintenance at the Nora Springs Care Center where he worked until his illness forced him to quit on April 7, 1997.

Edward was united in marriage to Nancy Stover on Aug. 7, 1993, in Clear Lake. Ed was a master of gardening tending his vegetable garden and everyone enjoyed his flower and rock gardens as well. He also enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing at Clear Lake. He was a member of the American Legion in Clear Lake.

Edward will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Nancy, of Clear Lake; his mother, Velma DeBolt, Florence, Ky.; one daughter, Tonya Clifford; and one son, Jeramya Clifford, both of Mason City; two stepdaughters, Tonya and her husband, Wayne Martin of Rockwell and Janan Walters of Rockford; one stepson, Monte and his wife, Tammi Walters of Osage; two sisters, Betty Clifford of Mason City and Ruth Ann and her husband, Jay Fredstrom of Florence, Ky.; a granddaughter, Zelda Bass of Mason City; two stepgrandchildren, Abby and Colby Martin; many nieces and nephews; and his dearest and closest friends, Janice Losee and Marilyn and Rich Ritter.

Edward was greeted in heaven by his father, Eugene; and his grandparents.
