Norma Marjorie Benner
CLEAR LAKE, IOWA - Norma Marjorie Benner, 79, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at Oakwood Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
Norma Marjorie Benner was born on November 13, 1917, in Marble Rock, the daughter of Alton Martin and Maude Beatrice (Davis) Preston. She attended and received her education in the Marble Rock schools, graduating from Marble Rock High School in 1935. After completing her education, she began working in the print room for State Brand Creamery in Mason City in 1937.
She was united in marriage to Rodney Duane Benner on Oct. 16, 1938, in Princeton, Mo. After their marriage, they lived in Mason City, Ventura, and in October of 1952, they moved to Clear Lake where she cleaned cottages in Clear Lake for several years. She enjoyed traveling, country music, cooking, watching soap operas on TV, and reading, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #1668 in Clear Lake.
Survivors include her husband, Rodney Benner of Clear Lake; three daughters, Norma Jean Benner of Iowa City; Nancy Lee Hick of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Carol Marie Hays of Orlando, Fla.; one son, James Duane Benner of Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Lanora Schultz of Marble Rock; as well as other relatives and friends.
