Oleva A. Schell

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Oleva A. Schell, age 83, of Nora Springs, died on Tuesday, February 25, 1997, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. John R. Kremer officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Osage Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that memorials be given to the Nora Springs Care Center, Highway 18 West, Nora Springs, in memory of Oleva A. Schell.

Oleva A. Schell was born April 16, 1913, at Nora Springs, the daughter of John T. and Ida M. (Theurer) Hofler. She grew up in Nora Springs, receiving her education from Nora Springs schools. She graduated from Clark College in Dubuque with a degree in business and returned to Nora Springs to work at the Hofler Seed Company for two years prior to her marriage.

Oleva was united in marriage to Clarence "Mike" Schell on May 3, 1937, at Rockford. They celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary in 1987. After raising a family, she enjoyed returning to work at the Hofler Seed Co., a business owned and operated by herself, her husband and her brother, John Hofler.

Oleva was an avid bridge player and a longtime member of several bridge clubs. She loved the challenge of the game, and valued the close relationship of the club members. She liked to knit, sew, read, play cards with her grandchildren, and exchange good stories. She was active in church, school and civic affairs, participating in whatever role was needed. She treasured the opportunity to work with many people on a variety of projects.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Clarence "Mike" Schell, Nora Springs; four daughters, Mary Lee Schell, Bloomington, Minn.; Barbara Ware and her husband, John, Okemos, Mich.; Loretta Grekoff and her husband, Dallas, Shakopee, Minn., and Rita Britton and her husband, Ken, Eagan, Minn.; 13 grandchildren, Micheal and Steven Ware, Okemos, Mich.; Todd Grekoff and his wife, Jessica, Mankato, Minn.; Kim Hinrichsen and her husband, Scott, Farmington; Troy and Karla Grekoff, Shakopee, Minn.; Mindy Bissonett and her husband, Rob, Lakeville, Minn.; Karla Grekoff, Shakopee, Minn.; Ben Britton, Eagna, Minn.; Abigail Britton and her fiance, Mike Thomas, Allerton; Elizabeth, Sarah and David Britton, all of Eagan, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kayla Hinrichsen, Jordon Harris, Kourtney Grekoff and Ryan Bissonett; and one brother, John R. Hofler and his wife, Louise, Nora Springs.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Loretta Graper.
