MARBLE ROCK MAN DIES

Merle L. Janssen

Funeral services for Merle L. Janssen, 78, of Friendship Acres, Marble Rock, Iowa, will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene, Iowa. Inurnment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, Iowa, at a later date. Visitation will be at the funeral chapel one hour before services.

Merle LuVerne Janssen was born July 1, 1929, in Rockford, Floyd Co., a son of Herman G. and Mamie (Holtz) Janssen and died Friday, April 18, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

He received his education in the Rockford Public Schools and various vocational courses throughout his life. As a young man he worked at the Oliver Tractor Works in Charles City, and later for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He lived in Rockford, Illinois where he worked for Chrysler Motor Company, later returning to Iowa to work for area farmers.

Merle had a keen interest in the Wild West, dressed in western clothing and enjoyed Country and Western Music.

He is survived by a sister-in-law: Geraldine Janssen of Marble Rock, four nieces: Deb Janssen, Cindy Boucher, Carolyn Mullen, and Amy Mullen; one nephew: Larry Janssen.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers: Arthur Herman Janssen, Lloyd Irvin Janssen, Elmer Janssen, Vernon Dean Janssen.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Merle Janssen Memorial Fund in care of the family, 1731 270th St. Marble Rock, Iowa 50653.
