Funeral services for Dale M. Bruns, 85, of 201 South Main, Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, with Pastor Gary Hatcher and Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 North First Street, Greene, where there will be a public Scripture Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services on Wednesday.

Dale Melvin Bruns was born August 6, 1922 in Scott Township, Floyd County a son of Herman John William and Martha Marie (Abendroth) Bruns, and died Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Floyd County Medical Center, in Charles City.

He was baptized on May 25, 1923 and confirmed a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church on May 23, 1937. Dale received his education Coldwater No.4 Mt. Nebo Country School, and started farming as a young man. He was united in marriage to Minnie Elizabeth Uhlenhopp on August 30, 1942, at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Dale and Minnie farmed in the rural Greene area for 50 years, before moving in Nov 1992, into their new home in Greene.

He had a great love for horses, from childhood and throughout his years of farming. He participated in chariot races and trotting races and many county fairs in North Iowa and Southern Minnesota. He once owned a Belgian Draft Horse named Dick that weighed 2240lbs. For many years Dale and Minnie sold produce at the farmers market. He often bragged about his large tomatoes.

Dale was humble, honest, and a good Christian man, whose life was an example to his family.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Minnie of Greene, three daughters: Shirley (Jim) Fesenmeyer, Marlene (LaVern) Landers, Jean (Lynn) Towsley, all of Greene; six grandchldren:Rodney (Marty) Fesenmeyer, Shannon (John) Latham, Jason (Kayleen) Landers, Angela (Tim) Christensen, Amy (Shane) Testroet, Levi (Brooke) Towsley 17 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Edna Akin, and one brother: Marvin Bruns.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Dale M. Bruns Memorial Fund in care of the family.
