A Memorial Celebration and Inurnment for Charles Henry Gates, 87, of 1502 260th Street, Nashua, Iowa, is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene, Iowa.

Charles Henry Gates was born April 25, 1920, in Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa, a son of Lloyd and Leila (Ikenberry) Gates and died January 9, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in New Hampton, of cancer. He received his education in the Marble Rock School graduating in 1938.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Lorraine Keith July 5, 1941 in Charles City. The couple made their home near Ionia for the first year of their marriage later moving to Long Beach, California where Charles was employed with McDonald Douglas Aircraft Co. He was inducted into the Army Air Corps in 1943, and was a flight officer with the 2512 AAF, Childress, Texas serving as an A-26 bombardier until his discharge in 1945.

Chuck and his wife returned to Iowa to farm in the Marble Rock area following his discharge, and moved to Nashua in 1950. He was a Chickasaw County 4-H leader and served many years as a member of the Big-4 Fair board and as fair livestock superintendent.

A 15-year member of the Chickasaw County ASC Board, Gates was also a long-time member of the Little Brown Church, Nashua and a 50-year member of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Iowa.

Chuck is survived by two sons, Ron( Helen) Gates, of Story City, Lynn (Stella) Gates of Castle Rock, CO; and a daughter: Andrea Gates of Nashua: four grandchildren, Vanessa Gates of Englewood, CO, Brian(Lisa) Gates of Roland, Doug Gates of Littleton Co.,and Craig(Misty) Gates of Canyon, TX; five great grandchildren, Audrey, Charlotte, and Joel Gates of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Autumn and Grace Gates of Canyon, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents, a sister: Lorene LeValley; a brother: EarlGates; several uncles and aunts.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Charles Gates Memorial Fund in care of the family.
