Funeral services for Andrew J. Mullen, 92, formerly of 803 North Joslin St., Charles City,will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 North First St., Greene. Burial will be in the Floyd Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral chapel.
Andrew J. Mullen was born July 4, 1915, a son of Abraham Henry and Frances Elizabeth (Fox) Mullen and died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the 11th St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
As a young man he worked for area farmers in Floyd Co. On October 7, 1934 he was united in marriage to Ruby Pearl Studer in Clear Lake. Following their marriage he worked as a farm hand for area, Floyd Co., farmers. In 1944, he moved to Charles City where he was employed as a mechanic, a part-time police officer, and later worked for Salsbury Laboratories. He was employed by Starkweather Buick in Greene and also farmed between Marble Rock and Rockford. Andrew farmed the Fred Schriever Farm until 1957 when he moved near Dougherty. There he milked cattle and farmed. In 1960, he moved to Manley where he continued to farm and milk cattle until 1964. Andy became a truck driver for a short time before moving to Algona where he worked for Snap-On Tools until his retirement in 1977. Andy and Ruby divorced in 2000.
Andrew enjoyed fishing as a pastime. He played both the guitar and the piano and loved to dance.
Living family members include: one daughter, Donna (Randy Weiland) Mullen of Algona; four sons: Richard (Jo) Mullen of Lake Park, MN, Dennis (Marilyn) Mullen of Rockford, Larry (Loraine) Mullen of Charles City, Russell (Peggy) Mullen of Charles City; fourteen grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren, a son-in-law: Roger Ellefson, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter: Dixie Lee Ellefson, two grandchildren, his parents, four sisters and six brothers.
