A Funeral Mass for Irene Stuntz, 85, of 108 South High St., Greene, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greene, with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2009, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel 519 N. First St. Greene. There will be a 7 p.m. Scriptural Wake Service followed by the Rosary conducted by the Catholic Daughters. Visitation will continue at St, Mary’s one hour before services on Saturday.

Mary Irene Kramer was borh March 18, 1923, near Marble Rock, Union Twp., Floyd Co., a daughter of Matt and Lola (Heinz) Kramer, and died Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at the Liebe Care Center, Greene.

She received her education in rural schools in Floyd and Butler Counties and attended Sacred Heart Academy in Greene. She graduated from the Greene High School in 1941. She became employed for the Shekleton Grocery Store where she remained until her marriage to James M. Stuntz on February 7, 1945, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene. They farmed in the rural Greene area until his death on April 9, 1973. She was manager of the Round Grove Country Club for many years.

Irene enjoyed cooking for her family and providing warm homemade rolls for those special Sunday dinners.. Irene enjoyed fishing and taking family trips to Canada.

Living family members include her children: Sherilyn (Rick) Backer and Steve (Kathi) Stuntz, all of Greene; six grandchildren: Gina (Dave) Keck of Waukee, Lisa (Stacey) Hovey of Urbandale, Bradley Backer of Waukee, Denielle (Ryan Conlon) Stuntz of Waverly, Clint (Amy Beschorner) Stuntz of Waukee and Scott Stuntz of Ames; eight great grandchildren: Nathan, Ryan, Will, and Katie Keck; Carter, Josie, Brady, and Lola Hovey; and one sister: Eula (Jake) Mehmen of Greene.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
