Bernice A. (nee Sido) Paulus

ROCKFORD, IOWA - Bernice A. Paulus, 84, died Thursday, (Feb. 13, 1997) at the Rockwell Care Center after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Roger Katz officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. at the church. The parish rosary will be held at 7 p.m.; Schumberg Funeral Home in Rockford is in charge of arrangements.

Bernice Ann (Sido) Paulus was born on May 11, 1912, to Henry and Mae (Wilson) Sido in the Rockford area. She attended school in the country school system around Rockford and was confirmed in the Holy Name Catholic Church. She married Earl C. Paulus on Nov. 27, 1932. To that union were born 10 children. For most of their married lives, the couple farmed.

Bernice was a devoted church member being a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Saint Elizabeth Circle. She loved to garden and enjoyed growing flowers in the house yard.

Mrs. Paulus is survived by children, Janice R. Herman, William H. Paulus, Robert E. Paulus, Sandra G. Losee, Garry R. Paulus, Michael D. Paulus and Richard J. Paulus, all of Rockford, Cynthia D. Goodale of Alta Vista and Rebecca L. Farr of North Platt, Neb.; a brother-in-law, Ed Dougherty of Rockwell; 41 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mae; her husband, Earl; a daughter, Joan Paulus; a son, Dennis, and two sisters, Winifred Havig and Vera Townsend.
