NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Gerald L. Austin, 64, of 216 Sixth St. N.W., died Thursday (Jan. 30, 1997) at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, Russellville, Arkansas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Nora Springs Christian Church, 102 N. Hawkeye, with the Rev. Greg Lugn officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #449.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Monday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Gerald L. Austin was born Oct. 24, 1932, in Mason City, the son of George and Alyce (Leaf) Austin. He married Patricia Ann Theisen on April 22, 1955 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Jerry grew up in Nora Springs and graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1951. He served as military police in the army stationed in Maine.

Jerry returned and worked at Nora Springs Service Station, and also worked at Culligan Soft Water, Mason City. He then helped operate a family construction business with his father. In 1965, he began working at Hofler Seed Company until retiring in 1990.

He enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors, woodworking, and reading westerns. He was an avid sports fan and he loved spending time with his granddaughters. Jerry was a member of First Christian Church and the Nora Springs American Legion Post #449.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamala K. Austin and her fiance, Gary Larson, of Mason City; three sons, Brian K. Austin of Ina, Ill., Mark D. Austin and his wife, Kristie, of Dover, Ark., and Brett A. Austin and his wife, Vicki, of Plymouth; six granddaughters, Jessica Pike of Plymouth, Katie, Kylie, and Kelsie Austin, all of Dover, Ark., and Danielle and Samantha Austin, both of Plymouth; four brothers, Conway Austin and his wife, Janet, of Nora Springs, Richard Austin and his wife, Georgine, of Princeton, Ill., Cortland Austin and his wife, Shirley, of Traer, and George Austin and his wife, Gayle, of Donnellson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Patricia, on Oct. 3, 1994.
