Herbert Edward Knecht was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Whittemore, to Joseph and Josephine (Derner) Knecht. He attended school in Whittemore.

On Feb. 14, 1950, Herb was united in marriage to Esther M. Eischeid in St. Cecelia's Catholic Church at Algona. The couple lived in the Algona area until moving to Charles City in 1962, where they have made their home for the last 43 years. Herb farmed in the Charles City area until retiring in 1983, at which time his sons took over the farm duties.

Herb took great pleasure and pride in providing for his family. He will be best remembered by his family as being strong, courageous, honest, hardworking and having a wonderful and unique sense of humor.

Some of Herb's interests, passions and leisure activities included his love for farming, cruising around on his John Deere "gator" and fishing. He was an accomplished carpenter, enjoyed woodworking and just simply tinkering around the family farm. Herb will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
