NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — Sarah “Ruth” Paul Auck, 92, of Nora Springs, died Wednesday (Oct. 1, 2003) at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Ruth Hansen of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nora Springs officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy 122, Mason City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Saturday at the chapel.
The family of Sarah “Ruth” Paul Auck has requested that memorial contributions be made to the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nora Springs in her memory.
Sarah “Ruth” Paul Auck was born on Aug. 24, 1911, in Oklahoma, the daughter of Milton and Elsie Louisa (Curtis) Smedley. She was baptized in a Baptist Church and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the Lutheran Church in Manly. She grew up in the Rockwell area and attended and received her education in the Rockwell School system. Ruth spent all of her married life in the Mason City area before moving to Nora Springs in 1979. For almost 20 years she worked for Armour’s Meat Packing Company in Mason City and at the VFW in Mason City until her retirement.
She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, flowers, plants, feeding and watching birds, picture puzzles, and loved to cook, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
Ruth had been a resident of the Nora Springs Care Center since July of 2000. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nora Springs.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ron Paul and his wife, Patsy, of Bemidji, Minn., Phyllis Albert and her husband, David, of Cambria, Calif., and Janyce Behne and her husband, Ron, of Nora Springs; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Lettie Buchalstein of LaHabra, Calif., Alice Cogill of Mason City, and Reba Miller of Belmond; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Roscoe Paul and Gideon Auck; two sons, Darrel and Melvin Paul; one grandson, Dwayne Behne; and four brothers, Arthur, Joseph, Vernon, and Clyde Smedley.
