NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — Phyllis Ann Weitze, age 58, and formerly of Nora Springs, died Saturday (Sept. 27, 2003) at Mercy Capitol Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, with Pastor Jim Turner officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye in Nora Springs. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church. Following the services her body will be cremated with graveside inurnment services at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs.

Phyllis Ann Weitze was born on April 1, 1945, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Roger and Helen (Gerdes) Weitze. She attended and received her education in the Nora Springs–Rock Falls school system, graduating in 1963. Phyllis also attended and graduated from Bethany Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1967. Phyllis received her cardiovascular training at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

After completing her nursing school, she continued at Bethany Hospital in the medical surgery unit, and also worked in the intensive care unit and psychiatric unit until 1992. She also graduated from Ottawa University in Kansas City with a B.S. degree in psychology. In 1992, she moved to Atlantic, Iowa and worked at the Cass County Memorial Hospital until Jan. 3, 1994, and retired due to health reasons.

She enjoyed playing the organ, making quilts, traveling, doing latch work, and also loved and enjoyed her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was confirmed in the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, and later through her adult life was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan., and later attended the Evangelical Free Church in Atlantic, and was a member of the Christian Women’s Club.

Left to cherish her memory is her father, Roger Weitze of Nora Springs; a brother, Ronald Weitze and his wife, Jane, of Fort Thomas, Ky.; a sister, Marlene Albertson and her husband, Harold, of Urbandale; five nieces and nephews, Sarah Weitze and her fiancé, Travis Holman, of Danville, Ky., Andrew Weitze of Fort Thomas, Ky., Tracy Hughes and her husband, Tony, of Waukee, Brad Albertson and his wife, Melissa, of Altoona, and Troy Albertson and his wife, Alicia, of Pleasant Hill; seven great-nieces and nephews; two aunts, Florence Gratias of Nora Springs, and Elsie Gerdes of Sheffield; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
