Virginia Bumbarger, 91, formerly of Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa, died on July 24, 2003, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was married to Paul R. Bumbarger, editor and publisher of the Charles City Press from 1946-1963. After living in Charles City, Virginia and Paul moved to Sikeston, Mo., where Paul was editor of the Sikeston Standard until his retirement. The couple moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1989.

Virginia was born on April 21, 1912, to the late Cary and Roberta Whitehead of West Point, Miss.. She graduated from West Point High School and the University of Kentucky. She married Paul Bumbarger in West Point on June 15, 1934. Mr. Bumbarger preceded Virginia in death on June 11, 1999.

Survivors included: one daughter and son-in-law, Janet Bumbarger Van Doren, who graduated from Charles City High School in 1959, and Barclay Van Doren of Cameron, Mont.; two grandchildren Clay Van Doren and Dr. Virginia Cary Van Doren of Denver, Colo., three great-grandchildren Madison, Caelen Paul and Hayden Van Doren, all of Denver; and one brother, Cary Whitehead of Como, Miss.
