CHARLES CITY, IOWA -- Elsie M. Edwards, 72, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003 at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at Ionia Funeral Home with Reverend Mary Hatch of the United Church of Christ in Ionia officiating. Organist will be Jerry Bailey.

Burial will be in Chester Hill Cemetery in Chester at a later date.

Elsie was born Jan. 25, 1931, in Fillmore County Minn., the daughter of Lyle and Myrtle (Ohl) Rowe. She attended school in southern Minnesota. On Jan. 20, 1947 in Waterloo she married Marvin Edwards.

Throughout her life, with the involvement of many friends and family, she enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, fishing, bowling, going to rummage sales and dancing in her earlier years.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Marvin, of Charles City; two sons: Dale (Carol) of LaPorte City and Guy (Jodi) of Charles City; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters: Ruth Forland and Ruby Darland.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ionia Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

The family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of Charles City.

Ionia Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
