David Chris Jensen, born March 21, 1939, in Swaledale, the son of Carl and Mary Jensen, died July 8, 2003, at the age of 64 in Grants Pass, Ore. A memorial service will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City on July 18, 2003, at 11 a.m.

David grew up on a farm just south of Charles City. He attended and graduated from Charles City High School in 1957. He was the first State Champion from Charles City in wrestling. After high school, he wrestled for Iowa State and UNI. David was united in marriage in 1960 to Carol Blum. He graduated in 1962 from State College of Iowa. After college, he taught High School biology, coached wrestling and football at Rockford, Ill., before going to Creston, Iowa, to teach science and coach.

David enjoyed working with his hands and decided to pursue a career in auto mechanics. After attending Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo, he opened his own auto mechanic shop in Charles City in 1966. The tornado of 1968 destroyed his business and he moved with his family to California where he returned to teaching High School science and shop.

In 1974, David overcame alcoholism which he was especially proud of and went on to help many others by becoming a sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous. He enjoyed a very active lifestyle. He loved bicycling, kayaking, rollerblading, swimming and hiking. He was an avid reader and enjoyed studying physics. His friends and family knew him as kind hearted and generous, one who received a great amount of pleasure from helping others. He often gave to others when he had little to give and had a very funny sense of humor.

He will be sadly missed by his four daughters: Julie Jensen of Madison, Wisc., Lynn Lee of Phoenix, Ariz., Bobbie Jensen and Mickey Callis of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jodi and John Bock of Mesa, Ariz.; his two brothers and their spouses, Philip and Evelyn Jensen of Charles City and Clarence and Mary Ann Jensen of Greene; his two sisters, Joan Litchfield of Nashua, and Delores and Danny Hammel of Abbotsford, Wisc.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bye Dad, we will always love you.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled; Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."
