Vernon D. Rindels, 71, of Nashua died Monday morning July 14 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, of injuries from an auto accident in Nashua. Services will be held Friday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home, rural Charles City with the Rev. Linda Myren officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens with military rites conducted by Ralph W. Nicholson, V.F.W. Post #6792 of Nashua. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Sunnyside.

Vernon was born Oct. 27, 1931 in Butler County, Iowa, the son of Simon and Lena (Van Hanen) Rindels. He served in the United States Navy from 1949 until April 1953. On April 20, 1959, he was united in marriage with Jo Ann Yost in Prairie du Chien, Wis. He worked at Carnation, retiring in June 1989. Vern was also an owner of Cedar Valley Game Farm and authorized several articles on breeding rare game birds. For instance one of his articles was published by the Waterloo Courier's front page on Monday, Sept. 25, 1989's paper.

He is survived by his father, Simon, Charles City; his wife, JoAnn, Nashua; a daughter, Sherri L. (Jack) Willey of Shell Rock; a son, Lance A. and his fiance, Cindy Junkman, of New Hartford, Iowa; two granddaughters, April and Andrea Willey; three step-grandchildren, Jason, Brandon and Angie Willey; three step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Goebel, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Myrna Taylor, Benson, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his mother; a son, Gregory; and two brothers, Raymond and Wayne.
