NASHUA, IOWA - Leola I. Mahan, 84, passed away Friday evening, July 27, 2003, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua, with burial in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Leola was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Roy and Jesse (Damro) Jones. She attended school in Charles City. She was united in marriage to Lelland Mahan on Jan. 1, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She worked at several jobs in Charles City, before she and Lelland purchased Davey's Restaurant in Nashua in 1970 and operated it until 1978.
She is survived by two sons: Jerry (Sharon) Mahan of Nashua and Ronald 'Jack' (Lois) Mahan of Charles City; a daughter, Dawn (Mike) Hammond of cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Leola was preceded in death by her husband, Lelland Mahan, on Sept. 30, 1996; a daughter, Shirley Mahan; her parents; one brother, Wes Jones; and a sister, Betty Wartman.
