Dorothy Hatzky Cummings, 88, a former resident of 910 South Johnson Street, Charles City, died Monday, June 09, 2003, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Dorothy Cummings will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Rev. Ed Bard, chaplain for Hospice of North Iowa, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Dorothy Marie Manning Hatzky Cummings was born June 12, 1914, at Bassett, the daughter of John and Elsie (Bachman) Manning. She graduated from the Charles City High School in 1933. In 1933 she was united in marriage to Alfred "Bud" Hatzky. "Bud" died on January 14, 1953. Dorothy then married Dale Cummings on November 22, 1971 at Las Vegas, Nev. Dorothy painted, wallpapered and cleaned houses, also worked for Blue Harvester, the Charles City Creamery, and Sperry's Moving but will be most remembered for selling Stanley Home Products. Dorothy was a member of the Heritage Club, Senior Citizens, and a former member of the Moose Lodge. While Dorothy liked playing cards, crocheting, and baking pies, her main hobby was work.

Living family members include her husband, Dale of Charles City; two daughters, Beverly (George) Pospisil of Mechanicsville, and Sharon (Richard) Hill of Angel Fire, N.M.; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren, two brothers, Donald (Mary) Manning of Charles City, and Melvin (Shirley) Manning of Rogers, Ariz.; and a sister, Velma (Leonard) Heinselman of Grinnell.

Her parents, first husband, "Bud" Hatzky, and a son, Roger Hatzky, preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa Charles City site.
