Leona Neir, 92, a resident of 609 North Iowa Street, Charles City, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services for Leona Neir will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City. Rev. Kent Sovine, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and an hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Leona Augusta Emmel Neir was born Feb. 27, 1911, at Montevideo, Minn., the daughter of Henry and Nannie (Sindt) Emmel. She received her education from rural schools.

On January 4, 1931, she was united in marriage to Harley Neir at Floyd. They farmed all their lives near Powersville. Harley died on Jan. 25, 1978. Leona was a member of Bethany Alliance Church, Alliance Women, and the Chat-a-bit Club. She thoroughly enjoyed gardening and working with animals. Time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren was very special to Leona.

Living family members include three children, Arley (Karen) Neir of Huntsville, Ala., Larry (Nadine) Neir of Overland Park, Kan., and Beverly (Don) Schaefer of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; 16, great grandchildren; two brothers, John (Bernice) Emmel of Charles City, and Marvin (Jean) Emmel of Allison; and three sisters, Eileen Heitman of Charles City, Mabel (Arnold) Grummer of Appleton, Wisc., and Mary Ann (Merlyn) McCabe of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers, Arnold, Walt, Eldo, and Glen Emmel.
