Sara Lucille Kollman was born October 22, 1912 on a farm in Benton County near Urbana, to Benjamin and Ethel 'Jennie' (Matthews) King. She moved at a young age to a farm near Vinton, where she attended school, graduating from Vinton High School in 1930. Sara began teaching in several one-room schools in Benton and Floyd counties and continued teaching for approximately ten years.

Since the age of 18, Sara has called the Rockford area 'home.' Sara and Melvin Earl Kollman were united in marriage on June 21, 1940 in Cedar Rapids. The couple was attended by her sister, Bernice Durow and brother-in-law, Floyd Durow. Following their marriage, they were blessed with two sons, Gerald and Ronald. Sara took great pleasure and pride in her family and church life. Melvin and Sara farmed together east of Rockford until Melvin's health forced his retirement in 1984. They moved to a new home in town at that time.

Sara will be well remembered for the dedicated and tender care she gave to their home, lawn and garden. She enjoyed growing flowers and had a special fondness for roses. Melvin and Sara treasured the many vacations they were privileged to take together, both abroad and within the United States. Sara shared her time not only with her family, but also with her community and church. She was very involved with the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for approximately 15 years and served both, her Church councils and the United Methodist Women as an officer throughout many years. Sara was a 55+ year member of the P.E.O. She relished her involvement in the Rockford Women's Club, Sunset Generation Senior Citizen's Club and her lifetime membership with the Floyd County Farm Bureau.

Sara is survived by her son, Jerry Kollman of North Wales, Pa.; her son, Ron and his wife, Cynthia of Midlothian, Va.; her two sisters, Bernice Durow and her husband, Floyd of Center Point, and Betty Paul and her husband, Richard of Carmichael, Calif. She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Craig Kollman and his wife, Nichole of Tampa, Fla.; Kelly Kollman of Minneapolis, Minn.; Christopher Kollman and his wife, Cari of Hopewell, Va.; Mark Kollman of Charlotte, N.C.; and Riley and Emma Kollman of Tampa, Fla.

Her husband, Melvin Kollman, her parents, three brothers, three sisters, two half brothers and two half sisters, preceded Sara in death.
