CHARLES CITY, IOWA -- Genevieve Cerwinske, 87, a resident of 113 Stony Point Road, Charles City, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Genevieve Cerwinske will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Solomon Odoom, pastor of West Saint Charles United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

Genevieve Elsina Bobst Buttjer Cerwinske was born April 7, 1915, at Aredale, the daughter of George and Minnie (Letzring) Bobst. She attended Hansell, and Sheffield Schools. On July 8, 1935, she was united in marriage to Richard E. Buttjer at Mason City. In the later 1940's they moved to the Charles City area. Richard died on May 7, 1975. On January 28, 1984, she married Albert Cerwinske. Albert died on March 20, 1994. Genevieve assisted in the farming operation, worked for 20 years at Jensen Locker and 10 years at the Smoke Shop, and was a Foster Grandmother for 10 years. She was a member of the West Saint Charles United Methodist Church. Among her hobbies were sewing, cooking, crocheting, flower gardening, and quilting. Genevieve wrote, "Remember how much my family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were special in every way and I loved each and every one. They were my pride, joy, and salvation."

Living family members include a son, Richard (Connie) Buttjer of Charles City; a daughter, Eleanor (Gale) VanHauen Nielson of Charles City; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, two brothers, Marvin (Viola) Bobst of Waterloo, and Morris (Donna) Bobst of Minnesota; three sisters, Lorna McClemens of Sheffield, Wilma White of Purham, MN, and Berdean (Lester) Allen of Dumont; and a daughter-in-law, Leane Buttjer of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, Larry Buttjer, a great grandson, Drew Lensing, a son-in-law, Bill VanHauen, four brothers, a sister, and three half sisters.
