CLARION - Joseph R. Horn, 89, of Clarion, formerly of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at USA Healthcare Center in Clarion of natural causes.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Sunnyside Chapel in rural Charles City. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens with Military Rites conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit

Visitation will be Saturday, March 8, 2003, from 9 a.m. until service at Sunnyside Chapel.

Joseph R. Horn was born January 17, 1914, in Charles City the son of George Christopher and Georgia H. (Reynolds) Horn. He married Nellie D. Christensen on March 31, 1935, in Charles City. He worked for the Iowa Highway Commission in Charles City and Wright County and also for the Clarion Police Department.

Joseph was a member of the Clarion American Legion, the Cedar Falls AMVETS and the Charles City VFW. He was also very active in the Honor Guard of Legion and performed in full Navy uniform at Clarion Memorial Day services every year. He also served in the U.S. Army in the Hawaiian Islands from 1932 to 1934 and the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nellie on Nov. 16, 2002; his parents; three brothers: Kenneth, Melvin and Marvin and one sister, Arlean.

Memorials may be directed to USA Healthcare Center in Clarion.

Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home in Charles City is in charge of arrangements.
