Anna Tjaden, 85, a former resident of 211 4th Avenue, Charles City, died Friday, February 7, 2003, at Port Charles Assisted Living in Charles City.

A funeral service for Anna Tjaden will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church. Pastor Gale Richards, pastor of the Colwell United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Bingham Township Cemetery, Woden.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Anna Jelletta Tjaden was born December 16, 1917, at Woden, the daughter of Jelle and Anna (Hopkes) Tjaden. She graduated from the Woden High School, received her Associate Degree from the University of Dubuque and her Bachelor of Science Degree from Drake University and did graduate work at Drake University and the University of Minnesota. Anna began her teaching career at Shell Rock and then came to Charles City where she taught for 41 years, many of them at Washington School.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church and Women's Fellowship, Church Women United, 4-H, Hawkeye Thimble Club, AAUW, and the Heritage Club. Anna was a charter member of the local Phi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa where she held local, state, regional, and international offices.

Living family members include two brothers, William Tjaden, Sr. of Clarksville, and George (Marian) Tjaden of Edina, MN; a sister, Margreete Tjaden of Garner; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, four brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the First Congregational Church.
