Leone Belle Thorson, 93, of Charles City, died Thursday, February 6, 2003, at the Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City, Iowa.

Funeral services for Leone will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 South Main Street, Charles City, with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today, Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street, Charles City, and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Leone Belle Thorson, daughter of Charles Henry and Pearl (Roberts) Gray was born on a farm near Fredericksburg on March 7, 1909. Leone's family moved to northern Minnesota. When she was young she attended rural school near Pine City, Minnesota.

Leone returned to Iowa where she met and was married to Floyd Thomas. Floyd died in 1944. During the Second World War, she was employed at the Oliver Corporation, where she continued to work until the mid-1950's. Leone married Oliver Thorson in 1953. The couple and Oliver's dependent children moved to Urbandale and later to Albia before returning to Charles City to retire in 1975. They purchased at 507 8th Avenue, Charles City. Oliver died in 1984.

Leone was a member and attended St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the church circles. Leone had a great love for her family, church and reading.

Survivors include her daughter, Helen (Glenn) Marrs of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; two step daughters, Jean Lent of Erie, Penn. and Kathy (Ron) Esper of Erie, Penn.; two sons, Charles (Arlene) Thomas of Charles City and Larry (Joan) Thorson of Cedar Rapids. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, six sisters and four brothers.
