Elizabeth "Bette" Bennett, 80, a resident of 1706 Owen Street, Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at Woodwinds Health Campus, Woodbury, Minnesota.
A funeral mass for Bette Bennett will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Monsignor Stanley Hayek, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday where St. Anthony's Circle will recite the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the Mass.
Elizabeth Carol Holland Bennett was born Feb. 20, 1922, in Charles City, the daughter of Edward and Ida (Greenwood) Holland. She graduated from the Immaculate Conception High School in 1940. Bette worked for the county attorney and at the employment office at the Oliver Corporation. On July 4, 1953, she was united in marriage to Richard Bennett at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Bette was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Anthony's Circle. Bette enjoyed spending time with her family, being part of church activities, cooking, and sewing.
Living family members include her husband, Richard Bennett of Charles City, two daughters, Maria (Mike) Westfall and Nancy Bennett both of Woodbury, Minn.; two grandchildren, Katie and Eric Westfall; a sister, Marjorie (E. Smith) Reed of Wallingford, Conn., and several cousins including Margaret Holland of Charles City.
Her parents, and a sister, Jean Holland, preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorials be directed to the American Lung Association, or the American Diabetes Association.
