George J. Naumann, Sr., 78, a resident of 105 3rd Avenue, Charles City, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Hospice of North Iowa Muse Norris Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral Mass for George Naumann will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Monsignor Stanley Hayek, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, January 24, 2003, where the St. Catherine's Circle will recite the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and where there will be a Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. followed by the reciting of the Rosary by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will continue Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at the church an hour prior to the Mass.

George Joseph Naumann, Sr., was born May 24, 1924, in Floyd County, the son of George and Rose (Scheu) Naumann. He received his education at the Roseville school.

On August 1, 1946, he was united in marriage to Esther A. Lawless at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Roseville. The couple farmed south of Charles City until their retirement in the late 1980's at which time they moved into Charles City. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, Heritage Club, and the Democratic Party. Among his favorite pastimes were birdwatching, spending time outdoors, having a cup of coffee with his friends, conversations about politics, and taking pleasure in his grandchildren.

Living family members include five daughters; Mary Jane (Ken) Akin of Rogers, Minn., Veronica (Gary) Lack of Nora Springs, Rita (Rick) Bozwell of Rockford, Ill., Patricia (Phil) Davis of Agency, and Angela Ethington and fiancˇ Brad Greimann of Sheffield; two sons, George Naumann, Jr. of Charleston, S.C., and special friend Betty McDonald of Charles City, and Al (Cindy) Naumann of Charleston, S.C.; 26 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren; two daughter-in-laws, Joanne Naumann of Marshalltown and Kathy (Mark) Moore of Rudd; two brothers, Bernard (Edith) Naumann of Mason City and Leo (Ursula) Naumann of Germany; and three sisters: Mary Louise Naumann of Clear Lake, Agnes Whitmore of California and Ruth Cook of Des Moines.

His parents, wife Esther on Dec. 8, 2002, two sons; Thomas and James Naumann; a grandson, Daniel Nixt and a sister, Rose Marie (Kenneth) Marzen preceded him.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Memorial Fund.
