Fannie Cleo Mullinkin Hillis was born Sept. 26, 1907, at Platteville, Wis., the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann (Dowling) Mullikin. She received her education at Waseca, Wis.
On March 7, 1931, she was united in marriage to Orville Hillis at Dubuque. They farmed near Floyd since 1943. Orville died on Nov. 16, 1969, and Fannie remained on the farm until last fall. Holcomb Springs was located on their farm and became known for picnics, and for camping by Boy Scouts.
Fannie was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, cooking, all aspects of farm life, and feeding the birds and squirrels. Her family was very important to her and she liked spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Living family members include two sons and their wives, Keith Hillis and wife, Phyllis, of Charles City, and Marlyn Hillis and wife, Marilyn, of Floyd; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maude Chrisinger, of Taylor, Wis.
Her parents, husband, a grandson, Steven Hillis, three sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorials be directed to the Grace United Methodist Church.
