Geraldine (Gerry) Spyr
Geraldine (Gerry) Spyr, 88, left this world on Aug. 23, 2002. Born June 11, 1914, in New Hampton, she was the youngest of five children born to John and Mathilda McAloon.
Preceded in death by parents and siblings; husband Clyde John Spry; and son William (Billy).
Survived by son David Spyr of San Francisco, Calif.; daughter, Toni (George) DuFour of Minneapolis, Minn.; former daughter-in-law Estella Jean Spry of El Segundo, Calif.; grandchildren: Jeffrey Spyr of Anchorage, Alaska, Stephanie Spry of El Segundo, Calif., Specialist William DuFour, US Army, presently based near Frankfurt, Germany, Michelle (Eric) Anderson of St. Paul, Minn., Renee (David) Fitzgerald, David DuFour and Daniel DuFour all of Minneapolis, Minn.; great-grandchildren: Cody and Colton Spyr, Ellie and Charlie Anderson.
Gerry took enormous pride in her Iowa heritage. She was a longtime resident of Charles City and an active member of Immaculate Conception parish. Due to a change in her health status she has lived in Minneapolis under her daughter's care for the past four years. While living in Charles City, Gerry enjoyed an active career in retail sales, continuing to work well into her seventies. She was an avid golfer and spent many happy hours with good friends at Wildwood Golf Course, always hoping to "break fifty". Gerry will be lovingly remembered by her warm smile, hearty infectious laugh and vivacious enthusiasm for life.
Family will gather for a celebration of her life at her daughter's home in Minneapolis. Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer's Association or Immaculate Conception Church. May God speed her on her journey until we meet again.
