MASON CITY, IOWA - Jean Laurie Meyer, 72, of 503 North Joslin St., Charles City, Iowa, died Thursday, July 18, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center--North Iowa, in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 22 at the First Wesleyan Church, 913 South Main in Charles City with the Rev. Ted Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Jean was born Jan. 8, 1930, the daughter of Mark and Gladys (Swann) Ferguson in Hinsdale, Ill. The family moved to Charles City in 1935 where Jean was raised and attended school. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1948. On Aug. 27, 1950 Jean was united in marriage to Robert Charles Meyer in Charles City. To this union two daughters were born.

Jean was a very active, generous and take-charge person who enjoyed being involved in different clubs and groups. She was active in the Floyd County Court House Retirees Group, Christian Women's Club and volunteered at the River of Live Christian School.

Jean was an avid reader and a collector of Dickens Village pieces. She would normally set her village up in November and invite people to come and see it. She would begin the dismantling process in April.

Jean enjoyed visiting with family and friends, music, doing crossword puzzles, watching professional football and tending to her two cats, Teddy and Hannah. Jean was a very efficient person who enjoyed sewing. She had sewn her daughter's wedding dress and her granddaughter's prom dresses. Jean's most precious time was spent with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Jean was the church treasurer for many years at the First Christian Church.

Those thankful for having shared in Jean's life include her daughters; Laurie Jean Cocking and her husband, Kent, of Marshalltown, and Nancy Marie Meyer of Fargo, ND, two sisters; Lila Feltus and her husband, Willard, of Charles City, and Helen Bullen of Iowa Falls, three grandchildren; Kristin Cooper and her husband, Jeremy, Aaron Cocking and his wife, Kristie, and Shane Cocking.

Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her parents and husband Robert.
