Donald Thompson, 75, a resident of 807 5th Street, Charles City, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

There will be no funeral services per Donald's request. The Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Clifton Thompson was born December 20, 1926, at Charles City, the son of John and Ina (White) Thompson. Part of his early schooling was in Des Moines. After his father's death in 1938 the family moved back to Charles City where he attended McKinley School and Charles City High School through the 11th grade when he joined the Merchant Marines, serving from 1944 to 1947. He then came home and finished his schooling. During the Korean Conflict he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Germany. Donald spent over 40 years in California, returning to Charles City in September of 1997 where he lived at the Starr Home until February of this year when he moved to the Salsbury Baptist Home.

He will be sadly missed by his two sisters, Dorothy Ward and Virginia Thompson both of Charles City; and four brothers, John Thompson of St. Paul, Minn., Robert Thompson and wife Darlene of Jesup, Gordon Thompson of Mason City and Douglas Thompson of Berea, Ohio.

His parents, a sister, Winnifred Zierath, a brother, Russell Thompson, two sister-in-laws, and a niece preceded him in death.
