John A. Jacobs Sr., 87, of Nora Springs, died Sunday June 9, 2002 at the Nora Springs Care Center. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 13, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at the Rudd United Methodist Church, with Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Rudd.

Visitation will be today, Wednesday, June 12, from 5-8 p.m. at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Family suggests memorials be made to Rudd United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

John was born Dec. 11, 1914, in rural Rudd, the son of H. Royal and Myrtie (Berk) Jacobs. He graduated from the Rudd High School in 1934. He was united in marriage to Leona Lacour Feb. 28, 1940, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. They were married for 62 years.

John started his lifelong farming career at Bristow, later moving to Rudd where they resided until moving to Nora Springs at Summit Heights Assisted Living in Feb. 99.

He loved nature, caring for his livestock, taking grandkids for walks and in later years enjoyed reading books and watching Iowa Hawkeye basketball games. He lived life to its fullest and enjoyed his family. He was a life long active member of the Rudd United Methodist Church and was a 4-H leader for many years.

Those grateful for sharing in his life include his wife Leona, Nora Springs; four children John (Norma) Jacobs Jr., Manson; Kathy (George) Tumilson, Rockford; Barb (Steve) Thiher, Cedar Rapids; and Deb Weiss, Iowa City, and her special friend Paul Martin; nine grandchildren Kristie (Randy) Pohlman, Nora Springs, Darin (Carrie) Jacobs, Alden, Joy (Scott) McMeekan, Moline, Ill., Shelle (Corey) Sporaa, Eagle Grove, Steven (Angie) Thiher, Newhall, Jon Tumilson, San Diego, Calif., Michael Thiher, Cedar Rapids, Rachel Weiss and Lisa Weiss both of Iowa City; seven great grandchildren Tasha Hill, Quentin Hill, Dylan Sporaa, Kobey Pohlman, Kamryn Pohlman, Kaitlyn Pohlman and Kelsi McMeekan; three step grandchildren David (Eileen) Bangtson, Story City, Allan (Pam) Bangtson, Cedar Falls, and Jeanne (Bill) Krebs, Manson, and four step great grandchildren Matt, Adam, Amy and Michael Bangtson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Ballhagen, and his brother Alton Jacobs.

Sheckler Colonial Chapel in Nora Springs is in charge of arrangements.

RUDD - John A. Jacobs Sr., 87, of Nora Springs, died Sunday (June 9, 2002) at the Nora Springs Care Center.
