Karen D. Anderson, 65, of Charles City, passed away on Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City from complications due to pulmonary fibrosis. Per her wishes, she donated her body and organs for medical research and organ transplant. Memorial services are pending.

Karen Dee (Young) Anderson was born Dec. 26, 1942, in Waterloo. At the age of 12 she moved to Charles City following the death of her father, and was a 1961 graduate of Charles City High School. She married Alan Anderson of New Hampton in August 1962, but the couple divorced in 1980. Karen was a stay-home mother for her family, but later in life was a graduate from Minneapolis Community College with an Associate Degree in Addiction Counseling. Most recently, she had been a cashier at Dollar General and a Foster Grandparent for the Charles City Community School District at Lincoln Elementary and the TLC preschool. Karen deeply loved her children, was passionate about her five grandsons, and enjoyed scrap booking and being outdoors. She was known to be “quite the talker” and a good friend.

Survivors include her son Tim (Stephanie) Anderson of Buckner, Ky.; her daughter Amy Jo (Jeff) Hoherz of Olathe, Kan.; her brother Kaye Young of Mason City; her five grandchildren: Benjamin (8) and William (6) Anderson and Chase (10), Anton (8), and Logan (6) Hoherz; and three nephews, Mark, Mike, and Matt Young.

Her parents, Glenn and Marlys Young, preceded her in death.
