NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Carol J. Bierbrodt, 69, of 715 Second St. N.W., Nora Springs, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Jan. 7, 2009.) Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday January 13, 2009 at the Christian Church, 102 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with Pastor Glen Bandell officiating. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs, Floyd county, Iowa.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, and then one hour before the service at the church. Family suggests memorials be sent to Nora Springs Christian Church, American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

Carol was born on July 15, 1939, in Adrian, Minnesota, the daughter of John L. and Illa M. (Davey) Spoelstra. She graduated from Adrian High School in 1956. She then attended Kahler Methodist School of Nursing in Rochester.

She married Alfred Bierbrodt Sr. on March 2, 1958. They lived in the Nora Springs area where they raised their family. Carol enjoyed spending time with her family and always looked forward to family gatherings. Carol's faith was very important to her and she strived to set an example for her family.

Carol worked at the Nora Spring Care Center for over thirty-two years, while working she obtained her L.P.N. from North Iowa Area Community College. She volunteered at Cardiac Rehab, Hospice of North Iowa and Nora Springs Care Center. Carol enjoyed driving and doing errands for the elderly. She was very active in her church, where she was an Elder, on the worship team and was a Sunday School teacher. Carol was a member of the Nora Springs Christian Church and the Mended Hearts.

Carol is survived by her four children, Al Bierbrodt Jr. and his wife Jolene, Anamosa, Terry Bass and her husband Greg, Mason City, Susan Devenport, Osage and Peggy Toole and her husband Steve, Mason City; daughter-in-law Laurie Morgan, Osceola; seventeen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister Donna Schutt and the Rev. Larry, Seminole, Okla.; special niece Jan Vaage and her husband Mark, Mason City, and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alfred Sr.; son Jim; grandson Dustin Hinders and a sister Dorothy Bartlett.
