Thomas LeRoy Hewitt was born on December 26, 1969, in Mason City, the son of Elmer and Rita (Mitchell) Hewitt. He graduated with the Class of 1989 from Mason City High School. During his school years, he achieved the rank of Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.

He was engaged in privately moving refuse, metal and construction materials with his dad at Hewitt Hauling and later his own business, TC Hauling. Tom also operated Tom's Tattoo Shop, creating beautiful body artwork.

He and the love of his life, Christy Nelson, were united in marriage on September 8, 1990, at St. Paul Lutheran Church and in June of 1994 they had their union blessed by the Catholic Church. Tom enjoyed celebrating with his family and friends. He was a constant provider of barbecued food. If the fire would stay lit he could be found all times of the year preparing anything you could cook on a grill. He was into heavy metal music and was the DJ for family and friends outings.

He, along with his family members, were constant participants in Civil War re-enactments and he achieved the rank of First Sergeant with the 8th Texas re-enactment group. He always cherished his time with his son, Jesse, sharing time playing video games or tramping through the woods at Lime Creek Nature Center. Tom participated in martial arts and collecting bar memorabilia, which included bar signs and shot glasses.

Throughout his debilitating illness, he kept his trust in Christy and his sense of humor with the rest of the family and friends.

Those thankful in sharing in his life, are his wife Christy of 18 years; his 14 year old son Jesse; his mother Rita Hewitt, his brother Jerry and wife DeAnna Hewitt all of Mason City, and a whole host of nieces and nephews.

His father, Elmer, preceded him in death.
