GREENE, IOWA - A funeral Mass for Ronald J. Osier, 68, of 216 South First Street, Greene, will be held at 10:30 am. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene with the Rev. Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery with military rites conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene where there will be a Scriptural wake service followed by a rosary and time of sharing. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services on Tuesday.

Ronald Joseph Osier was born April 8, 1934, near Oakwood, Floyd county, the son of Donald Joseph "Dutch" and Geraldine Marie (Betts) Osier and died Thursday (May 23, 2002) at his home in Greene.

He received his education from the rural Floyd County schools and St. Mary's School at Roseville. He graduated from the Greene High School in 1952. He became employed by Northwestern Bell in Charles City until he entered the United States Army where he served during the Korean Conflict.

Ronald was united in marriage to Rosemary Barth on June 6, 1956, in Charles City. To this union were born two sons. The marriage ended in 1976. He was also married to Lita Grimes for a short time.

Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Bell Telephone where he remained until his retirement in 1984. During the last five years of his employment he worked as an alcohol rehabilitation counselor and following retirement he worked in the same capacity for Warren and Marion counties.

Ron's interests included hunting pheasants and fishing for walleyes.

Family and his grandchildren were the most important things in his life. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, honorary member of the V.F.W. and a member of Tack Barnett Post 288 American Legion of Greene.

Living family members include his two sons; Michael Joseph Osier, of Mason City and Christopher Jon Osier, of Charitan; four grandchildren, Shannon Osier, Stephanie Osier, Michael Dejean, and Jordan Osier; his mother, Gerry, of Greene; five sisters and their spouses, Donna and Gary Gerhard, of Marble Rock, Marjorie and Gerry Geitzenhauer, of Westminster, Colo., Sharon and Randy Krominga of, Mason City, Barb and Steve Schroeder, Deb and Tom Heidenwirth all of Greene; four brothers and their spouses, Jim and Dianne Osier, of Greene, David and Linda Osier, of San Diego, Calif., John and Judy Osier, of Greene, Dan and Jan Osier, of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1986; a sister, Phyllis Groshens, in 2000; and two brothers, Lyle Osier in 1984, and Eugene, in 1995.
