MARBLE ROCK, IOWA — Funeral services for Walter A. Lines, 83, of 2429 Glass Road, Marble Rock, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford, with Pastor John Albrecht, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Marble Rock and will continue one hour before services on Friday at the church.

Walter Arvid Lines was born Aug. 19, 1914, in rural Scott Township, Floyd County, a son of Henry "Harry" Charles and Clara Ann (Schafer) Lines and died Tuesday, December 30, 1997, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City.

He was baptized Nov. 15, 1914, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, in Greene and received his education in the rural Scott Township Schools and attended Rockford High School. As a young man, he farmed with his parents and played baseball for the Rockford and Rudd town teams.

He was united in marriage to Cecile Geraldine Calease on Aug. 30, 1939, at Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford. They farmed in the rural Rockford and Marble Rock their entire marriage. Walt's interests included hunting, target shooting, fishing and playing pool.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, member of the Farm Bureau and served on the Marble Rock School Board.

Living family members include his loving wife of 58 years, Cecile, of Marble Rock; three sons, Harley and his wife, Carol, of Marble Rock; Eugene and his wife, Cindy, of Charles City; and Jim of Marble Rock; seven grandchildren, Flint and his wife, Lisa Lines; Shane and his wife, Terri Lines; Todd and his wife, Suzy Duryee; Troy and his wife, Becky Duryee; Walter Duryee; Brad Lines; and Erin Lines; nine great-grandchilden; one sister, Lavina Morphew, of Marion; and one brother, Maurice Lines, of Marble Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Walter A. Lines Memorial Fund in care of the family.
