FLOYD, IOWA — Patrick Dean Coyle, 37, of Wasilla, Alaska, died Friday (Jan. 23, 1998) at the residence of his parents, Dean and Audrey Coyle, 207 Monroe St., Floyd, following a brief illness with cancer.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, U.S. Highway 18 and Clark St., Charles City. Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek, pastor, will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, where there will be a parish vigil scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at church.

Patrick Dean Coyle was born March 18, 1960, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Dean Edward and Audrey Joan (Kuhlmann) Coyle. Patrick moved with his family to several towns as a young child before settling in Floyd. He graduated from Charles City Community High School in 1979. Immediately following graduation, he began to work for Ted’s Auto Electric in Charles City. Patrick then worked as a truck driver for Miller Trucking. He continued his over-the-road experience, delivering Winnebago motor homes with his best friend, Ron Sargent.

Patrick moved to Lake Town, Utah, where he worked for the Lake Town Meat Locker. He then became a motorhand for the Parker Drilling Company. After relocating to Ashton, Idaho, Patrick became a loader operator for the C&B Timber Company. He moved to Anchorage, Alaska, to become a crane operator for State Leasing, of Anchorage. He then went to work for Miller Trucking and Excavating as a heavy equipment operator. Patrick then began his own business with his brother, Ed -- C&B Timber of Alaska.

Patrick remained a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Charles City. He was proud to be known as one of the "Floyd Boys." He was noted as a savvy trapper, hunter and fisherman. Not only did he enjoy those activities, but he also excelled as a cook with the game he caught, especially moose, elk, deer, fish and fowl.

Patrick also enjoyed four-wheeling, snow machining and placer gold mining in Alaska. Although Patrick sometimes gave the appearance of a big and burly "Hoss of Bonanza" type, his gentle side shined through with his abilities with kids. Throughout all of his travels and adventures, Patrick made and kept special friends, many of whom said what an inspiration he was in their lives.

Patrick leaves to mourn in his early passing his parents, Dean and Audrey Coyle, Floyd; three siblings, Ed and DeEtt Coyle, Wasilla, Alaska; Connie and Mike Johnson, Charles City; and Christine and Rick Mayer, Stacyville; his grandmother, Mildred Kuhlman Flugge, Northwood; four nephews, Jesse and Cody Johnson, Charles City, and Gary and Brad Mayer, Stacyville; his best friend and his family whom Patrick considered his second family, Ron and Teresa Sargent and family; his father figure in Alaska, Dick Benner (the owner of State Leasing), Anchorage, Alaska; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Penny Sue Coyle.
